Thielen Student Health Center can provide the information and advice you need to prepare for international travel, whether it’s on your own or with a study abroad program. Travelers can make an appointment with TSHC to receive necessary vaccinations and travel information for worldwide destinations. Traveler’s to Europe should call first to determine if a full appointment is needed for their destination.

Travel Clinic
Services Provided
- Current and individualized health risk information based on daily updated information from the CDC and other travel information sources.
- Review of travel itinerary, previous immunizations, and individual health needs.
- Consultation with a travel nurse and physician. Scheduling a separate appointment for a physical examination if needed.
Appointment Checklist
What to do and know ahead of time:
- Complete and submit the Traveler History Form (PDF) and gather all previous and current vaccination records
- Submit the completed form and vaccination records by emailing to shctravel@iastate.edu
- Please note: travel questionnaire must be completed and submitted with all previous and current vaccination information BEFORE your appointment.
- Plan to submit information well in advance of your trip – some vaccination requirements may take several months to be completed. We recommend 2 months prior to your departure date.
- Appointments will be scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday or Friday
Appointments
Once you have completed the Appointment Checklist items a representative from TSHC will contact you within a week to schedule your travel appointment.
- Plan to allow 30 minutes for an initial travel consult appointment.
Charges for Services
We follow traditional insurance billing process for travel clinic visits. All costs will be submitted to your insurance company. This is not a guarantee of coverage and payment. It is strongly encouraged that you contact your insurance carrier prior to the travel visit to ensure what is covered under your plan.
